BUY AMERICA – 5323(j)

FTA’s Buy America requirements prevent FTA from obligating an amount that may be appropriated to carry out its program for a project unless "the steel, iron, and manufactured goods used in the project are produced in the United States" (49 U.S.C. § 5323(j)(1)). FTA’s Buy America requirements apply to third-party procurements by FTA grant recipients. The goal of this program is to ensure U.S. funded projects bolster companies with products developed, manufactured, and sold in the USA.

Low or No Emission Vehicle Program – 5339(c) (Low-No)

The Low or No Emission competitive program provides funding to state and local governmental authorities for the purchase or lease of zero-emission and low-emission transit buses as well as acquisition, construction, and leasing of required supporting facilities. On June 25, 2021, FTA announced approximately $182 million in funding for low and no emissions buses and the facilities that support them.

The Airport Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) Program

The Airport Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) and Infrastructure Pilot Program improves airport air quality and facilitates use of zero emissions technologies at airports. Created in 2012, the program allows airport sponsors to use Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funds to purchase ZEVs and to construct or modify infrastructure needed to use ZEVs.

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) today announced the availability of $10 million in Fiscal Year 2021 competitive grant funding to support transit services for American Indian Tribes and Alaska Native villages in rural areas. FTA's Tribal Transit Program is authorized by Congress to support public transportation for federally recognized Indian Tribes and Alaska Native villages, groups, or communities. The funding helps Tribes to meet the needs of Tribal citizens, including older adults, people with disabilities, and youth in rural areas.
